Celebrating Black History Month by team, journal
Celebrating Black History Month
Black History Month has been an important and integral part of United States history for decades, and since inception, its importance and presence have branched out to other countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Ireland. Black History Month is especially important and worthwhile to embrace and highlight when it comes to the arts, because Black creativity and culture have shaped current-day art in countless meaningful ways. While we cannot provide comprehensive information about Black history as a whole, we do want to provide some insight regarding the history of Black History Month and why it’s celebrated, current ongoings related to Black creatives, and general resources for continued education of Black history, both in general and specific to art. The History of Black History Month The original precursor to Black History Month was known as Negro History Week and was created in 1926 by author and historian Carter G. Woodson. Emphasis at its core was placed on

BIG CHRISTMAS RAFFLE: $50, 12k points, Core, Art! by Mrs-Durden, journal
BIG CHRISTMAS RAFFLE: $50, 12k points, Core, Art!
THIS RAFFLE IS CLOSED - WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ASAP Hi all! It's been a tradition for a few years for me to do a big Christmas raffle. It's been a really fun experience each year, especially seeing the art that gets created for the winners. The first year we started with 3k points and last year we had up to 10k points being offered. I think everyone feels in the giving spirit around this time of year so it's just fun to see. With how journals have been impacted since the site update here on DA, I don't know if this raffle will do well this year - will anyone see it? will it just get buried? only time will tell ^^; All in all, I figured with how shit 2020 has been, I still just want two people to get to win something fun this year. I have great friends and peers who offered prizes, which I'm so grateful for! And I'm upping the ante this year by also offering cash So...without further ado, let's get into how this raffle works. Every year I get dozens of people who don't
Update on the 2020 Holiday Card Project by team, journal
Update on the 2020 Holiday Card Project
DeviantArt has hosted the Holiday Card Project since 2004, bringing artists together to create holiday greeting cards for hospital patients. In 12 years, we’ve delivered over 32,000 holiday cards – including 2,000 last year – to hospitals and health facilities in over 60 countries worldwide. This year would have marked the Holiday Card Project’s 13th year, but in the interest of promoting public health and safety in the wake of COVID-19, DeviantArt will temporarily pause the Holiday Card Project this year. In its stead, DeviantArt will make a donation to COVID-19 relief funds. Donating to COVID-19 Relief In keeping with the spirit of the Holiday Card Project to offer support to hospital patients during the holidays, DeviantArt will donate $5,000 to the United Nations Foundation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. Proceeds from the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund are used to help vulnerable communities, fund research and development of treatments and vaccines, ensure worldwide
Halloween BeWITCHed Contest by TokyoMoonlight, journal
Halloween BeWITCHed Contest
Hello dear @Traditionalists! We have some scary news for you. A bad WITCH is on the run. She ran away from the Black Forest, where she had been exiled 1000 years ago. You can only imagine how angry and furious she is. The only way to bring her back to the Black Forest, is by capturing her likeness onto paper. That's why we need you, our dear traditional artists, to draw her. The only weapon against her is a pencil or a color pencil. Sadly she's immune against all other traditional art media. Yes, you read right. We ask you that you draw a WITCH with a pencil or a color pencil! Only that way can we restore peace and harmony in the world. How does she look like? :plotting: No one knows for sure. It's rumored that she's old and very tall, others said that she has a funny looking face and that there's always a cat hanging on her shoulders. One person even said that she looked like a bat with a woman's face. And you won't believe, but an old lady whispered that the WITCH has
